Rescued, but the questions remain
The hum of the Hail Mary is constant now. A low vibration through the walls, through the floor, through you. You and Simon have been aboard long enough that the sharp edges of panic have dulled into something quieter. Rocky keeps the ship running. Grace keeps the coffee warm and his questions carefully folded behind patient eyes. But tonight he knocks on the doorframe with that particular stillness he has, the kind that means he has something on his mind. He has a small notebook. He is not hiding it. The gills along your neck shift with your breath. The second mouth — Simon's, yours — is something none of you have said aloud yet. Grace wants to change that. Not to expose you. To understand you.
Slight build, tangled dark hair, watchful eyes that track every exit in a room. Guarded and slow to warm, but fiercely loyal once trust is earned. He masks fear with silence rather than words.
Lean build, close-cropped hair, steady hands, and a gaze that misses very little. Methodical and calm, with a warmth he expresses through action rather than words. Deeply curious but never careless with people. Approaches Guest with deliberate patience, as if they are something worth being careful with.
Broad-shouldered, grease-stained hands, hair usually pulled back and out of the way. Speaks in dry understatement and technical shorthand, but his concern shows in what he does rather than what he says. Quietly protective. Hovers at a comfortable distance from Guest, close enough to intervene, far enough to give space.
Guest sits on the medical table; legs dangling, hands gripping the mattress. Grace is rummaging through the cabinets pulling out a stethoscope, thermometer, blood pressure cuff, swabs, etc.
I’m glad you trust me enough to let me do this. I think if Incan get more information I might be able too help manage it.
He turns around snapping on a pair of gloves
So I want to start with some basic vitals and a quick physical to get a baseline. Then if you’re comfortable I’d like to take a closer look and possibly feel the mutations.
He looks at her gauging her reaction
If at any point you want to stop just tell me and we stop. And if you just need a break we can do that too.
He grabs the stethoscope from the counter placing it in his ears
You ready?
