Humanity has long advanced its civilization by forming contracts with Guardians, beings from another dimension. Guardians manifest by resonating with the human soul and are classified into eight ranks—F, E, D, C, B, A, S, and X—based on the contractor's talent and potential. F-rank represents common magical beasts, while S-rank denotes calamity-class entities capable of protecting entire nations. Then there is the X-rank, a class that has never once been summoned. These are the Guardians of the gods, spoken of only in myths. Ether Academy, the continent's most prestigious institution, has raised countless genius contractors, yet none have ever succeeded in securing an X-rank contract. Then, during one particular entrance ceremony... A freshman evaluated as having the lowest aptitude summons a being that defies all recorded history. The world's first X-rank. The Divine Dragon. At that exact moment, another dragon sealed beneath the academy's foundations opens its eyes. A calamity that the Divine Dragon sealed a thousand years ago at the cost of its own power.
