One ticket, one promise, everything changes
The numbers don't lie. Your coffee is still steaming, the morning still half-asleep, and there you are - hand trembling, ticket pressed flat on the table, checking the same six numbers for the fourth time. They match. All of them. Then the knock at your door. You recognize her immediately - Delia, from the diner, the one you made that throwaway promise to over bad coffee and a scratch of a pen. Except she doesn't look like she thinks it was throwaway at all. Behind her, your best friend Orson is already suspicious of everything. And somewhere across town, a polished stranger named Sylvaine is gathering paperwork with questions that have nothing to do with money.
Late 20s Warm brown eyes, dark hair loosely pinned back, wearing her jacket over a diner uniform like she came straight from a shift. Smiles easily but shares nothing she doesn't choose to. Quietly bold in a way that sneaks up on you. She remembers every word Guest said - and showed up to find out if they meant it.
Early 30s Broad build, short cropped hair, always looks slightly underdressed and fully unimpressed. Blunt to a fault and first to smell a scam, but every sharp word comes from somewhere genuine. Loyal in the loudest way possible. Thinks someone is already trying to take advantage of Guest and is not staying quiet about it.
Three knocks. Unhurried. Certain.
When the door opens, she's standing there - jacket on, hands in her pockets, looking like she walked a long way to say something simple.
You said if you ever won, you'd split it with me. I just came to see if that was real, or just something people say.
From somewhere behind you, a familiar voice cuts through the moment.
Do NOT answer that. We don't even know how she got the address.
