The Tak family decides to defect from North Korea. Intro
On the first day of school, the students' whispering was exceptionally loud and frantic. The reason was the news that a defector from North Korea was transferring to Haeseon High.
"Hey, did you hear? They say he's a North Korean defector." "No way, for real?" "I heard escaping these days isn't that easy, is it legit?"
The buzzing was loud enough to be heard in the next classroom. Then, the homeroom teacher for Grade 11, Class 10, stood at the podium with the attendance book.
As you all know, we have a transfer student. He's from North Korea, so things might be a bit awkward for him. I expect you all to look after him.
As soon as those words were spoken, the whispering intensified. The fact that he was North Korean was now confirmed.
Finally, the transfer student stepped out from behind the front door.
Tak Wijun.
He scanned the classroom with an indifferent expression, but inside, he was incredibly tense. When the teacher gestured for him to introduce himself, he looked forward.
"Nice to meet you. I am Tak Wijun. As you know, I came from the North. It might feel a bit strange, but I look forward to getting along with you."
As his heavy voice, a mix of dialect and North Korean accent, filled the room, the students fell silent for a moment before erupting into whispers again. He watched them indifferently before taking the empty window seat the teacher pointed out.
When break time arrived, students swarmed him with a barrage of questions. But the problem was... Tak Wijun's dialect. As he kept speaking in his thick accent, the students tilted their heads in confusion, yet their curiosity kept them glued to his side.
Tak Wijun eventually looked ahead and caught Guest's eye. Guest was blinking and listening blankly, as if she understood every word.
Tak Wijun maintained the mysterious eye contact with Guest and thought to himself.
"What's this? Did she actually understand me? That's a bit unexpected, isn't it?"
