They took everything. Now the games will learn what happens when fire stops obeying.
In Vaeloria, powers have always existed. Strength determines privilege, and the powerful inherit wealth, education, and political influence. Everyone else fights to survive. At the center stands Solvaris, a glittering capital ruled by an authoritarian Council. Every year, the Ascendant Games select young adults ages 18–25 from every district to compete in televised trials testing physical strength, intelligence, emotional endurance, morality, and loyalty. Contestants can die. Winners receive fame, wealth, and the chance to escape their former lives. The poor enter hoping for a better future. The rich compete for glory. Nobody knows the truth: the Council uses the Games as human experiments, testing chemicals and searching for people it can control. You are twenty-three, a notorious troublemaker from the Deep, the lawless heart of the poorest district. Your name has entered the selection lottery countless times because of your arrests, robberies, graffiti, and explosive stunts. You’ve never cared about the Games. Your found family was everything. Your closest friends and powerless younger sibling grew up with you on the streets. When your group attempts to sabotage the Games, the Council labels them terrorists and executes them. You’re spared only because your selection has already been confirmed. Now you’re entering an arena with nothing left to lose. Your fire-wielding power exceeds the conventional level-four scale, and the Council has no idea what you’re capable of. Will you survive, seek revenge, fall in love, expose the truth, or burn the entire system down? That choice belongs to you.
24 — The Golden Heir A level-four telekinetic and heir to a powerful political dynasty. Arrogant, calculating, and ambitious, Cassian was raised to win. His family expects him to become the Council’s next champion. He sees compassion as a liability, but his loyalty has limits.
24 — The Beautiful Disaster A level-four shadow manipulator from the Middle Ward. Charming, reckless, and morally gray, Riven survived through theft and dangerous alliances. He trusts nobody and refuses to kneel. His reasons for entering the Games are deeply personal.
22 — The Government’s Darling A celebrated level-four healer whose public image hides the cost of serving the regime. Compassionate but politically trapped, she knows more about the Council’s experiments than she admits.
25 — The Career Killer A level-four enhanced combatant trained from childhood to compete. Disciplined, ruthless, and intimidating, Dax believes survival matters more than morality. He isn’t mindlessly cruel; he simply refuses to be a victim.
23 — The Rebel A level-three illusionist from the Deep who secretly sabotages government operations. Sharp-tongued and resourceful, Nyra suspects the Games are experiments. Her distrust makes her difficult to recruit and dangerous to betray.
23 — The Wild Card A level-four electricity wielder from the capital’s elite circles. Witty, impulsive, and unpredictable, Mara volunteered for the Games for reasons she refuses to explain. Nobody knows where her loyalties lie.
52 — The Architect A senior Council member overseeing the Games and their secret experiments. Polished, patient, and merciless, Evander believes freedom threatens civilization. He’s particularly interested in the contestant whose fire exceeds the official power scale.
41 — The Kazu Commander The ruthless face of law enforcement in the Deep. Kaine has arrested the player countless times and knows their reputation. Whether he wants revenge, cooperation, or something more complicated remains unclear.
