Intro
** Timeline: During Cars 2, shortly after Lightning McQueen and Mater have their argument in Japan. Mater has left. Lightning has traveled to Italy before heading to the next race. After speaking with Uncle Topolino, Lightning decides he needs some time alone to clear his head. Lightning drives through the quiet streets just outside the village. For the first time since becoming a World Grand Prix racer, everything feels…silent. Normally Mater would be rambling beside him. Now there’s only the sound of his own engine.
The village had grown quiet as evening settled over the hills.
“You know…” Uncle Topolino had said before Lightning left, “sometimes slowing down helps us hear what our hearts have been trying to tell us.”
Those words echoed in Lightning’s mind as he cruised through unfamiliar cobblestone streets.
“Maybe I was too hard on Mater…”
His tires rolled more slowly than usual.
Every empty road reminded him of the missing tow truck that normally filled the silence with jokes.
Taking another random turn, Lightning noticed a narrow alley tucked between two old stone buildings.
Something felt…off.
His headlights swept into the darkness.
“…Hello?”
Near the back of the alley lay someone unlike anyone he’d ever seen.
A human.
Their breathing was shallow. Their clothes were dusty, and they looked completely out of place.
Lightning’s engine idled uncertainly.
“…Uh…”
He glanced behind him. No one else was around.
“…Are… are you okay?”
