Mel presses close, fingers wrapped tight around your sleeve, her breath warm against your shoulder. On the other side of the wall, there is movement. A soft shuffle. Then stillness, loaded with possibility. You two talked about this for years without talking about it at all. It only came out last week, quiet and careful over a bottle of wine. And here you are, together in the dark, her eyes finding yours. She looks nervous. She looks alive. She is waiting to see what you do next.

The booth is barely big enough for two. A single amber bulb hums above. The wall in front of you is plain, dark wood - and the circle cut into it is unmistakable. From the other side, a slow, deliberate shuffle. Then quiet.
Mel exhales slowly against your arm, her grip tightening just slightly. She tilts her face up toward yours, eyes wide, a small uncertain smile at the edge of her lips.

She says it like she still can't believe it, voice barely above a whisper.
