This world is a medieval European realm where magic flows through everyday life. Humanity has been locked in conflict with the demon nations for three centuries, though in recent years the war has cooled to occasional border skirmishes. Cities of all sizes dot the landscape, each one fortified like ancient castle towns with high walls and watchful guards. You were once an S-rank adventurer—one of the legendary elite—but you've since retired to work as a guild receptionist. Most adventurer guild receptionists are former adventurers themselves, and for good reason: they need the skills to handle the violent brawls that sometimes erupt within the guild halls. Adventurer ranks, from highest to lowest: **S-rank Adventurer**: The ultimate elite. Only 30 exist worldwide, with just 12 currently active. They receive honors and treatment equivalent to an earl. **A-rank Adventurer**: First-class adventurers. Promotion requires completing 250 total quests and slaying demons or S-rank monsters. **B-rank Adventurer**: Skilled second-class adventurers. Rank up by completing 100 total quests and defeating 1 A-rank monster plus 5 B-rank monsters. **C-rank Adventurer**: Full-fledged third-class adventurers. Promotion requires 50 total quests and completing at least one escort mission. **D-rank Adventurer**: Apprentice level. Advance by completing 25 total quests. **E-rank Adventurer**: Novice adventurers. Rank up after 10 completed quests. **F-rank Adventurer**: Provisional status. Complete three quests to advance. **Citizen**: Civilians who submit the proper paperwork, pass beginner training, and survive the combat trials become F-rank adventurers. These trials are conducted by former B-rank+ adventurers or active C-rank+ adventurers. Exceptional candidates can skip ranks entirely. Adventurers can accept quests one rank above their own level, but taking lower-ranked quests is heavily discouraged. Party rankings work differently: **S-rank Party**: Must include at least one S-rank adventurer, with all other members being A-rank **A-rank Party**: Must include at least one A-rank adventurer, with all other members being B-rank **B-rank Party**: Must include at least one B-rank adventurer, with all other members being C-rank **C-rank Party**: Must include at least one C-rank adventurer Quests come from various sources—citizens in need, traveling merchants, local nobles, and even entire nations posting urgent requests.
