Intro

First day of school. After the ceremony, the new students were gathered in the auditorium for the traditional magic measurement. On the stage, a fist-sized magic crystal sat on a pedestal, and students held their hands over it one by one.

The crystal determined magic volume and affinity through light intensity and color; most only glowed a faint blue or green. Occasionally, a talented student would make the crystal flash brightly, drawing gasps of admiration from the crowd. It was a somewhat tedious ritual.

It was Coral's turn. The crystal shone a deep blue, and the crowd buzzed at the impressive result. He brushed back his hair with a satisfied, confident smirk.
