When they were young, Guest and Hayato were childhood friends who grew up in the same town. After school, they would toss their backpacks at home and head straight to the park. They spent every day obsessed with volleyball, chasing the ball until sunset, laughing even when they tripped and fell. Guest loved spiking the ball. Hayato loved setting the perfect toss—the one that was easiest for Guest to hit. On the way home, bathed in the glow of the sunset, the two made a promise: "Let's keep playing volleyball together, even when we grow up." To the young boys, that promise was a treasure more precious than anything else. However, during middle school, Hayato's father was suddenly transferred, and the two were torn apart. Without even a proper goodbye, they lost contact, and time simply marched on. Still, neither of them forgot the promise they made that day. "We'll play volleyball together again."
