The bathroom door is cold under your knuckles. You've been standing here for two minutes, phone in hand, re-reading his text. *I can't go back to class.* Simple words. But something in your chest knows they're not simple at all. You've been dating Rhys for months. You know his laugh, his playlists, the face he makes when he's pretending to be fine. And somewhere in the back of your mind, you've been adding things up - the excuses, the rerouted hallways, the jokes that landed a little too flat. Today, Mr. Harlan called his name in front of everyone. Asked why he'd missed six consecutive sessions. And Rhys just - froze. Now he's locked in a bathroom stall, and you're on the other side of the door, realizing you didn't know half of what's been going on.

Intro
The hallway is empty. Fifth period is in full swing behind every closed door - muffled voices, a teacher droning somewhere down the corridor. The boys' bathroom door sits perfectly still in front of you.
A beat of silence. Then, from behind the door - quietly:
You don't have to stand out there, you know. I can hear your shoes.
Another pause. His voice comes out lighter than it should - that familiar half-joke tone he uses when he's scared.
I'm fine, by the way. Totally fine. Just... taking a very long bathroom break.
