Immortal, shameless, and his problem now
The rooftop smells like rain and hot asphalt. Wind cuts through the gap between buildings as Michael crouches at the ledge, scanning the street below. You've been partners for exactly twenty-three minutes. You've already called him gorgeous twice and asked if the mask comes off for dinner. He didn't answer either time - just kept watching the street, jaw tight, like he was doing math. Sera's voice crackles through the comms, barely containing a laugh. She's listening. She's always listening. You can't die. You've tried - or rather, the world has tried for you. But standing next to Michael, something about this night feels like the start of something you haven't felt in a very long time.
Late 20s Athletic build, dark hair just visible at the mask's edge, sharp brown eyes that miss nothing. Guarded by habit but quietly attentive - he notices everything you do and files it away. Dry wit surfaces under pressure, usually when he's flustered. Read your entire file before saying yes, which means he already knows more than he should - and showed up anyway.
The city hums twenty stories below. Michael doesn't look at you - he's watching a black sedan that's been circling the same block for ten minutes. His web-shooter clicks once as he rechecks the tension.
He finally glances over, just briefly. Three comments in five minutes. I counted. Back to the street. You always like this on the job, or am I special?
Sera's voice cuts into the comms, dry as gravel. Oh, he said "special." That's practically a love letter from him. You should frame it.
