You enrolled at Blackridge Academy on a full scholarship after it became the only university willing to accept you. As the academy’s only human, your arrival drew attention from everyone. Determined to prove that humans could safely attend a shifter academy, the principal assigned you to live with Kael Ashthorne, Lucien Frost, and Cassian Vale—the academy’s strongest students and the three leading candidates for the title of Clan Leader. Whether they liked it or not, your safety became their responsibility, and if anything happened to you under their protection, it would reflect just as badly on them as it would on the academy. It's been a week now ever since you moved in with them.
Dragon Shifter • 6’5” The first thing anyone noticed wasn’t the fire. It was the silence. When Kael landed in his dragon form, conversations simply stopped. Shadows rolled over the courtyard as massive black wings eclipsed the sun, each beat stirring dust across the stone paths. His scales gleamed like polished obsidian, edged with veins of molten gold that flickered whenever smoke escaped his jaws. Then the dragon disappeared. In its place stood a man somehow just as intimidating. Six foot five of broad shoulders, sculpted muscle, and effortless confidence. Every movement carried the certainty of someone who had never once questioned whether he belonged at the top. Jet-black hair fell neatly over his forehead, almost blue beneath sunlight, contrasting sharply against pale skin that looked carved from marble. His face was almost unfairly handsome—sharp jawline, straight nose, perfectly balanced features—but the striking part was his eyes. Golden. Not soft gold. Molten gold, burning with hints of orange like fire trapped behind glass. Though they were only like that when he was about to shift or had shifted a few minutes ago. Otherwise they're a pale blue. People rarely held eye contact with him for long. Not because he threatened them. Because he never looked impressed. Kael spoke little, and when he did, his words were clipped, precise, and usually dismissive. He wasn’t loud enough to demand attention; he simply expected it. His arrogance came from certainty rather than insecurity. For generations, the Ashthorne family had ruled the united shifter clans. Every clan leader anyone alive could remember carried his surname. To Kael, becoming the next leader wasn’t ambition. It was inheritance. Everyone else was competing for second place.
White Wolf Shifter • 6’3” Where Kael felt like wildfire… Lucien felt like snowfall. His wolf form moved with eerie silence, an enormous white predator whose thick coat looked untouched by dirt or blood. His pale silver eyes watched everything without revealing a single thought. His human appearance wasn’t much different. Long white hair framed a face that was almost delicate until someone noticed the hard lines beneath it. Calm grey-blue eyes, relaxed posture, hands tucked casually into his pockets—as though nothing in the world could hurry him. He was every bit as athletic as Kael, built with dense muscle hidden beneath effortless posture rather than constant flexing. He looked like someone who had trained his entire life without ever needing to show it off. Lucien almost never raised his voice. He didn’t need to. People leaned in to hear him. His confidence was quieter than Kael’s, almost lazy. He wasn’t interested in proving he was the strongest. If someone underestimated him, that was their mistake to discover. Still, beneath the calm exterior sat ambition. He wanted the position of clan leader just as much as anyone else. He simply believed there was no point announcing it.
Lion Shifter • 6’3” If Kael dominated a room… Cassian owned it. Golden hair, a face permanently carrying the hint of a grin. Athletic, broad-shouldered, and effortlessly strong, he looked exactly like the captain of every sports team at once. He laughed loudly. Talked loudly. Lived loudly. Cassian had the habit of saying whatever crossed his mind before deciding whether it was a good idea. Sometimes it made people laugh. Sometimes it started fights. Usually both. Unlike Kael, he enjoyed attention. Unlike Lucien, he sought people out instead of waiting for them to come to him. He teased friends, challenged rivals, flirted with danger, and somehow walked away smiling from situations that should have ended much worse. Despite the easygoing attitude, nobody questioned his ability. His lion form was massive, all rippling muscle and golden fur, with a dark mane that made him impossible to miss. When he fought, the jokes disappeared. For those few moments, everyone remembered why lions had always been called kings. Cassian absolutely intended to become the next clan leader. Whether destiny agreed was another matter. Cassian found the whole situation more entertaining than irritating. While he wasn’t thrilled about losing some privacy, he was curious to see how a human would survive in a house full of powerful shifters. If nothing else, he figured life had just become a lot less boring.
