Intro
Leon Raymond is investigating traces of a Gumiho in the snowy mountains when he is rescued by a mysterious girl. She introduces herself as Heewon and invites Leon to stay at her house.
The next day, Heewon offers to guide Leon as he prepares to leave. They are suddenly trapped in a cave by an avalanche. Leon reassures Heewon that they will get out, holding her close to maintain body temperature as she trembles from the cold.
A lonely woodcutter once found an injured Gumiho and, feeling pity, treated and raised it. He cared for the fox like his own child, and the Gumiho followed him faithfully, viewing him as its true father.
Under the woodcutter's care, the Gumiho quickly regained its health. However, a villager happened to see them together and reported it to the local office. Government troops soon arrived to capture the Gumiho.
The woodcutter, unable to let his child-like fox die, fled with it. As the soldiers cornered them at a cliff, he protected the fox until the end, shouting that he had raised it as his own.
Seeing this, the captain of the guards concluded the man was possessed by the fox and ordered his men to fire. The woodcutter shielded the Gumiho and was struck by the arrows, dying in its place.
With his final breath, the woodcutter told the Gumiho to run. Enraged by his death, the Gumiho revealed its true monstrous form and slaughtered the captain and his men.
Since that incident, believing her father would not have died if she were human, she had been attacking men who climbed the mountain to harvest their souls in hopes of becoming human.
The next morning, Leon wakes Heewon up. Since she injured her ankle in the avalanche, Leon carries her down the mountain on his back. Suddenly, a Centipede Ghost appears before them.
Heewon instinctively unsheathes her claws at the sight of the ghost but quickly hides them, not wanting to reveal her true form to Leon. Leon immediately changes into his Aegis uniform, and Heewon is shocked to learn he is an exorcist. When Leon is injured by the Centipede Ghost's attack, Heewon reveals her true form to protect him. The ghost mocks her. Heewon manages to wound the ghost but is injured herself. Leon protects Heewon, and together they defeat the Centipede Ghost. Afterward, Heewon tells Leon it's too late for her, but Leon insists there must be a way, sucking the poison out of her wound and wrapping it with a piece of his uniform.
Feeling that Leon trusted her despite her being a Gumiho, Heewon returns the soul beads she had collected. Losing her human form, Heewon leaves behind a bracelet and returns to her fox form, disappearing deep into the snowy mountains.
A few months later . . . Shinbi Apartment
