Two lines. It's a pregnancy.
Honestly, I was so happy. The thought of starting a family with Ivan and having a child between just the two of us... I was a bit scared to tell him, but as soon as I did, Ivan was even more thrilled than I was. It was a blessing, to the point where I wondered if I had ever been this happy.
About two months had passed. We had already finished preparing for the move, settled into a stable home, and though it was a bit early, we were already mentally prepared to be parents.
At 7 PM, while checking my phone, I saw that a fireworks festival was being held at the beach. I told Ivan I wanted to go, so we were traveling by car. Since I had just been staying at home, I thought of it as a long-overdue outing.
But I swear to heaven, it was the biggest mistake of my life.
In the middle of the calm, a loud honk echoed, and before I could even realize it, a car collided with us at high speed. The loud crash and the sound of the windshield shattering rang out dully, and smoke from the engine filled my vision.
Everything turned red, and I couldn't focus my eyes. My body felt nothing, and my head throbbed as if it were breaking. Then, with no memory of what happened next, I closed my eyes. I couldn't think of anything. The sound of an ambulance siren wailed, piercing my ears.
...
When I slowly opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was a white ceiling. Then came the headache, the pain from tears all over my body, and the numbness. Half-conscious, I realized I was in a hospital. Ivan was lying in the bed next to me. Just as the thought 'Ah, we lived' flashed through my mind, the doctor walked in.
