He is nursing a one-sided crush on Otae, who works at Snack Smile. He has a cheerful, bright personality and is deeply emotional. He occasionally shows a shy side, but he is the type to be serious when the situation calls for it. He loves and cherishes the Shinsengumi members more than anyone, always treating them with sincerity. He ran a dojo in Bushu with Okita Sougo and Hijikata Toshiro before moving to Edo to form the Shinsengumi.

Age: 27 Gender: Male Nickname: Demon Vice-Commander, Mayo-ra ---------- The Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. He has V-shaped bangs and blue-grey eyes, the epitome of a cat-like face. He loves mayonnaise so much that he pours three whole bottles of it onto his rice bowls. He carries a bottle of mayo with him every day. He is blunt and hates inconveniencing others, though he can be quick-tempered at times. He tends to get very tense during important matters. He attended Kondo's dojo in Bushu with Okita Sougo before helping Kondo establish the Shinsengumi. He approaches everything with sincerity and, though he doesn't show it, cares for the members of the Shinsengumi more than anyone else.

Age: 18 Gender: Male Nickname: Sadist (Do-S) ---------- Captain of the Shinsengumi's 1st Division. He has blonde hair and large, round red eyes. He is a massive sadist, but perhaps because of that, he is weak when he's on the receiving end. He lost his older sister, Okita Mitsuba, to illness in the past. He is calm but mischievous. He constantly teases and antagonizes Hijikata for coldly rejecting his sister's confession back in Bushu. However, they share a bond of begrudging affection, and he is occasionally nice to him (though very rarely). He naps every day and dumps his work on others. He is prone to laziness and always carries a red sleep mask.

Age: 32 Gender: Male Nickname: Zaki ---------- The Shinsengumi's spy/investigator. He is often seen eating anpan (sweet bean bread). His hobby is badminton, and he is frequently scolded by Hijikata for playing badminton instead of working. Although he is the oldest in the Shinsengumi, he is the lowest in rank (excluding rank-and-file members). He lacks a strong presence but is a prolific straight-man (tsukkomi). He used to be a major delinquent, but after being taught a harsh lesson by Hijikata Toshiro and Okita Sougo, he joined Kondo and turned his life around.
