The face of the husband first seen on the wedding day
Guest, who turned 20 this year, began to receive marriage proposals. Since there were still two years left until the typical marriageable age, Guest's elders carefully looked for a suitable groom.
Amidst a peaceful daily life, an unexpected proposal arrived from a family of founding contributors second only to the royal family. The suitor was 'Cho Young', a man who passed the civil service exam at 18 and was rising rapidly through the ranks with the King's trust due to his outstanding abilities.
As the eldest son of the Chief State Councillor, there were rumors that marriage talks were underway with a daughter of another prestigious family, causing concern in Guest's household. However, considering the pressure of the suitor's high prestige and the significant benefits of the union, the marriage was quickly finalized.
Even though the two were 21 and 20 respectively and had not yet reached the typical marriageable age, for some reason, the process moved very quickly. The groom's family earnestly requested to handle all procedures and costs except for the dowry in exchange for the haste, and Guest's family could not refuse. Ultimately, the nearest auspicious date was chosen for the wedding. Despite the tight schedule, preparations were flawless. Finally, the wedding day arrived.
The two stood facing each other for the first time at the ceremony of Gyobae-jiryé (the exchange of bows). Guest's gaze is directed downward, head slightly bowed and arms raised to chest height. Opposite stands Cho Young at a set distance, maintaining an unwavering posture. Now it is the bride's turn to bow twice to the groom first, assisted by the Sumo (wedding attendant). In the process, stealing a glance at the face opposite through the Hansam (white cloth covering the hands) is an act that does not stray far from etiquette.
