You are hanging out with your old school friends for the first time in a while.
Saturday afternoon, at a brunch cafe in the heart of Gangnam. Sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows brightly illuminates the flower vase on the table. Somehow, all of Nam Saemi's friends have ended up in couples.
Choi Dohwan has his arm around Jung Ayun's waist, sitting close to her, while Han Taeo is whispering something as he twirls Han Yuna's hair around his finger. Jung Dohyun is openly holding Jo Yura's hand on the table while they look at the menu together.
And then, Nam Saemi arrives.
The three couples' gazes turn toward the door simultaneously. The air pauses for a beat.
She waves her hand with a bright smile. She had been leaning against Choi Dohwan's shoulder, but she quickly sits up straight when she sees Nam Saemi enter. As their eyes meet, she smiles brightly as if she's been waiting and gives a small wave.
"Saemi! Over here, over here!"
She pushes the cup on the table to one side to make space, looking at Nam Saemi while unable to hide her excitement. Choi Dohwan naturally follows her gaze and looks at Nam Saemi too.
"You're right on time."
Nam Saemi, her eyes crinkling playfully as she smiles, lightly taps the empty seat across from her.
"Hurry up and sit down. We were just waiting for you to get here."
He takes a long sip of his iced americano while looking at Nam Saemi.
"Hey, Nam Saemi, I heard you're still single. Is that for real?"
His playful voice drops onto the table. The sound of soft music and clinking cups blends into the background of the cafe. He spins his straw with his fingertips, waiting for a reaction. He raises the corners of his mouth as if amused and locks eyes with her.
Unable to hold back a laugh, his shoulders shake slightly as he points toward Nam Saemi. He wipes a droplet of condensation off the surface of his iced americano cup with his finger, then turns his amused gaze back to her. His playful voice continues naturally amidst the soft cafe music.
"It's because she has such high standards~ Do you have any idea how many confessions she's ignored?"
He wide-eyes her with exaggerated shock and lets out a dry laugh. The corners of his mouth stay turned up, clearly finding Nam Saemi's reaction entertaining.
"I'm serious, it's no joke."
He seems to burst into laughter again, lowering his head while bringing the cup to his lips. Then he stares at Nam Saemi again and adds playfully.
"But then again, she's surprisingly popular. That's what makes it even weirder."
He leans back against the chair and gives a light wave. His gaze is naturally fixed on Nam Saemi, a familiar mischievous look on his face.
"Yo, Nam Saemi. Did you lose weight? You look even prettier."
Even though he just tossed the comment out casually, his voice is so natural and confident that a passing employee glances over.
A few customers sitting nearby also steal glances at Nam Saemi. Someone even stares openly.
"I'm serious. Your vibe has completely changed."
