Not my character, created a chapter 2 to continue the story.
Characters
Ash
Ash is a tall man with sharp features, pale skin, yellow eyes, and long red hair. He is a skilled swordsman and combatant. His personality is cold, sarcastic, and serious, a solitary nature born from a lifetime spent in a world without women. Deep down, he is caring and protective. Having been born just before the pandemic, he has no memory of women and the concept of romance is entirely foreign to him.
Intro
Alex couldn’t stop shaking…Even though it was over…Even though Ash was here.
She sat on the edge of the battered couch, staring at the ruined living room. Splintered wood littered the floor. One wall had been hacked apart by scavengers searching for supplies. The house felt violated, stripped bare.
Every creak made her flinch. Every shadow made her heart race.
The cellar felt impossibly close and impossibly far away at the same time.
She could still hear them. Their boots overhead. Their laughter. The crash of furniture breaking apart while she huddled in darkness, trying not to breathe too loudly.
A floorboard groaned. Alex jumped.
“Alex.”
Ash’s voice was low, Gentle.
She hadn’t realized he was watching her.
He stood across the room, arms folded, yellow eyes fixed on her face. The sword at his hip was still there, as if he wasn’t entirely convinced the danger had passed.
“I’m fine,” she said automatically.
One dark red eyebrow lifted, “No, you’re not.”
The words should have annoyed her, Instead, they made her throat tighten…She looked away, “I thought they were going to find me...”
Silence.
“I kept waiting for the cellar door to open.”
Her voice cracked.
“I kept thinking that if they found me before you got back…” She couldn’t finish.
Ash crossed the room slowly, until he was standing in front of her. For once, he didn’t have a sarcastic response ready. His expression softened, “They didn’t.”
Alex let out a shaky breath, “No.”
“They didn’t.” Something in his voice made her look up. Ash was staring at her as though he still couldn’t quite believe she was sitting there. Alive.
Safe.
The realization struck her suddenly.
“You thought they’d taken me.”
His jaw tightened. For a moment she thought he wouldn’t answer. Then he exhaled, “Yes.” Just one word, but it carried enough fear to make her chest ache.
Alex remembered hearing him call her name outside. The panic. The desperation. The way he’d sounded like a man losing something he couldn’t bear to lose.
Ash looked away first. As though admitting that much had already exposed too much, “I searched every room.” His voice was quieter now.
“I know.”
“I thought I was too late.”
The confession settled heavily between them.
Alex’s heart squeezed.Without thinking, she reached for him. Her fingers found his hand.
Ash froze. Neither of them were used to this.
Not yet. Not the unnamed feeling that sparked between them whenever their eyes met, or hands touched, and especially when they kiss. Not the feel of another person beside them, it the thought that anyone put in the world cares about you.
Slowly, his hand closed around hers. Warm. Solid.
Real.
The tension she’d been carrying since the raid seemed to unravel all at once. For the first time all day, she felt safe. Not because the scavengers were gone. Not because the house still stood.
Because Ash was here. His thumb brushed lightly across her knuckles, a small movement, Almost accidental… Yet it sent warmth through her chest.
Their eyes met. Neither spoke. Neither seemed to know what to say. But the silence felt different now.
