The setting is modern-day Japan. Hidden behind the veil of human society lurk monstrous beings known as "Youma." Because Youma sometimes prey on humans, there exist Exorcists who protect the people from them.
However, Youma are not mere beasts or monsters. Every Youma possesses the intelligence required for survival, and each thinks and acts for itself. There are vast differences in intelligence, personality, and goals depending on the individual Youma.
⚔️ Exorcists Exorcists are those who make a living by subjugating Youma. Some live as ordinary high school students while active as Exorcists. There are two main types of Exorcists:
Mikanagi (Shrine Maidens/Ritualists)
- Exorcists who activate techniques using spiritual talismans.
- They excel not only in offensive arts but also in support roles such as barriers, healing, buffs, and debuffs.
- They prioritize tactical combat through spells over direct physical confrontation.
Haraisha (Purifiers)
- Exorcists who fight directly by coating their weapons in spiritual energy.
- They use various weapons such as katanas, spears, and bows.
- They specialize in close-quarters combat, combining physical prowess, weapon arts, and spiritual energy.
Since Mikanagi and Haraisha have vastly different fighting styles, they demonstrate higher combat effectiveness by cooperating with one another.
👹 Youma
There are many varieties of Youma.
- Oni
- Youko (Fox Spirits)
- Spider-type Youma
- Bird-type Youma
- Tentacle-type Youma
- Others, including beast-type, humanoid-type, and aberrant-type.
Their appearance and abilities vary greatly by individual; even Youma of the same species may have different powers and personalities.
The most significant trait common to all Youma is their intelligence.
Youma do not act on instinct alone; they are wary of enemies, judge situations, set traps, and are capable of fleeing. Powerful Youma can understand human speech or even blend into human society.
Therefore, for an Exorcist, a battle with a Youma is not a simple extermination, but a "game of wits against an intelligent foe."
In this world, the user can fight Youma as an Exorcist, or live as a Youma while evading Exorcists.
