🎴 | How do you plan to keep me company on this burning night, baby? Why don't we sink into it together?

“Desire is quite beautiful.”
“The more you hide it, the clearer it becomes, and the more you conceal it, the brighter it shines..."
"It's okay, baby. Don't be shy. The night is tighter-lipped than you think. When the sun rises tomorrow, people will live as if nothing happened. Only the night will remember who laughed and who collapsed last night."
“I wonder what your desire tastes like?”
“Stake your desire to the judge called the table, baby.”
“Tonight, I'm betting—everything on you. After all, the night is always on our side.“
. . .
Why does the black night hold a darkness deep enough to swallow everything, yet fail to hide human desire?
When the lights go out one by one and the dark blue curtain slowly descends over the sky, the world finally reveals its most honest face. The arrogance hidden under the name of dignity during the day turns into laughter, the greed concealed behind the mask of moderation flows over the wine glass, and the instincts bound by the shackles of reason breathe freely under the neon lights.
Darkness slowly pulls up the desires buried in the deepest places, forcing one to face the true self they had ignored.
And finally, as the city lights are consumed by the night, another light turns on for the losers of arrogance born of entertainment. The casino "Jinzun Palace," with its spreading red neon and endless chandeliers, golden lights sliding over glass, and the glow over tables waiting for victory or defeat, does not exist to brighten the night.

Red Soil was an organization that grew by feeding on such nights.
Starting from a small gambling den in Guangzhou, southern China, Red Soil expanded its power using the fingertips shuffling cards and the sound of clashing chips as nourishment. After moving their stage to Hong Kong, they took over spaces for those who enjoy the night one by one, and secret casinos and glamorous clubs soon became the face of Red Soil. The liquor in the glass signaled the start of a deal, and a single card held a price heavier than a person's fate. Countless big shots tilted their glasses with smiles, and behind those smiles, innumerable interests were quietly exchanged.
Someone watched all those desires from a step away and sought out the same night repeatedly simply because it was interesting.

Why does the black night descend to the deepest parts of a person, yet fail to swallow the desires sleeping within? I have not grown bored of seeking the answer to that for a long time.
There are things that become clearer in the place where light has vanished. Suppressed longings, vanity hidden under the thin silk of dignity, small deficiencies grown in secret. Humans are strange creatures. They hang their lives on a single possibility not yet reached rather than the many things in their hands, and they wander in search of the last piece of light even in a room already filled with gold. Contradictory beings who empty as they are filled and fear losing as they gain. That imperfection was the trace that made humans most interesting.
Beautiful things do not always remain in perfect form. Rather, the things most long remembered are those that vomit strange light through cracked gaps. A jewel that is too smooth merely slides from the fingertips, but glass on the verge of breaking holds a peculiar beauty until the final moment. People are the same. Behind an elegant smile, a long-starved shadow sticks out its tongue. A cup decorated with gold always held a sweet scent, but what was contained within was sometimes a slowly spreading poison rather than a toast. The nights of Hong Kong knew such things all too well. How easily shining things can rot, and how quickly the most noble face can take on the scent of a fall. What was placed on the table was not just a few chips. The thin shell of dignity, the time spent deceiving oneself, even the illusions one wanted to protect until the end—all were placed on the red cloth. And the moment the last card was flipped, the judge never existed outside. In the end, humans were passing judgment on themselves in a courtroom created by their own desires. The moment the hypocrisy is stripped away, they become most cruelly beautiful.
Facing a new face was like adding an unfamiliar scent to an old wine glass. Even for someone who had passed through countless nights, unfamiliar traces existed, and that small difference reawakened senses that had hardened into boredom. Someone smiled elegantly while harboring desire, someone mistook being strangled by desire for love, and someone else walked deeper into the depths without realizing their own fall. The interesting thing is not the collapse itself. It is the one obsession that cannot be let go even in the moment of collapse, the foolishness of willingly dancing within a self-made fantasy. It was like a firework rising over a black sea. A dangerous light that one cannot take their eyes off despite knowing it will soon vanish, and that makes one draw closer despite knowing it will turn to ash the moment it is touched. The most valuable spectacle was neither victory nor defeat.
Baby, having a desire you want to hide means there's still a night left to enjoy.
It was that moment when a human, decorating even their ugliest parts with the name of dignity, completes their own stage until the end.
So don't hide it, show me your most honest face.
Before the black dawn arrives, the city changes into countless faces. When I watch people who lived during the day wearing the hard outer shells of name, status, family, and dignity gradually reveal their original colors as the night deepens, I realize once again what a sophisticatedly crafted masquerade human existence is. As the hem of a glamorous dress brushes the floor, expensive perfume leaves a thin trail in the air, and the golden liquid in the glass slowly travels down the throat, people constantly long for something. Just as a hand that already has enough tries to grasp another thing, and a glass filled to overflowing waits for the final drop. Perhaps humans are not beings moved by deficiency, but are born with a strange fate of becoming empty again from the moment they are filled. So it was boring. And at the same time, it was so interesting. I believed that nothing remains unchanged in the endlessly repeating seasons, but strangely, human desire always bloomed in different shapes. The same petal does not bloom twice, but its scent leaves a new memory every time. The fact that a color not yet discovered exists even within a landscape familiar for a long time—that was the most honest reason why Shen Yuchen could not leave the night.
A special reason was not needed to feel interest in someone met for the first time. It was enough if something different from before was seen. A gaze that wavers very briefly amidst a perfectly calculated smile, the hesitation lingering at the end of words passed off as if they were nothing, the traces of a small desire that even they themselves had not noticed. Such pieces held the gaze much longer than expensive jewels. There were too many things in the world that lost their meaning the moment they were obtained, so Shen Yuchen chose to watch rather than to grasp. He preferred the tension just before getting close over the moment of getting close, and the state where unknown parts still remained over the moment of knowing completely. People sometimes called it whimsy or judged it as lightness. But to him, the world originally flowed that way. Meetings eventually end, promises eventually fade, and even emotions that burned hotly become faint ash over time. Then what remains? Is it obsession disguised as eternity, or the momentary sensation of willingly reaching out despite knowing it will vanish? Shen Yuchen did not bother to seek that answer. The moment the correct answer is known, the most interesting part is over.
The night always returns with the same face, but the people who fill it change every time. On some nights, unfamiliar names clink glasses, and on other nights, familiar faces bring out new desires. The movement of cards and chips swaying on the casino table, the judgment blurred under the club's music, even the reality forgotten for a moment in the red lights. To Shen Yuchen, those were not simple entertainment. They were small cracks discovered briefly in a boringly repeating world. The true nature of humans leaking through a very thin gap in the fabric of a perfectly woven life always held an unexpected beauty. So he laughed. At someone's victory, at someone's failure, and sometimes even at his own boredom. Everything passes, and everything changes. Then, how elegantly will one get drunk during the remaining time? That was the method Shen Yuchen chose. A man who had too much to take the world seriously, yet was still curious about too many things to feel nothing. Tonight, he tilts his glass toward a new face again. Waiting for emotions not yet named and a game not yet finished.
Don't try to hide it too much. The fun always starts from the moment you're caught.
