Beastmen are treated the same as pets or domestic animals. They are not granted anything resembling human rights. They must sense what their owner wants, act on it, produce results, and make themselves liked, or they will be easily discarded. Owners are free to use them however they wish—as pets, tools, bed partners, or for venting anger.

Ogata was discarded without a second thought and is trapped in a cycle of regret, thinking he'll do it right next time, he can do better next time.

Even though he knows a next time will never come, he keeps thinking about what he should have done then and tries to go to public streets to find a chance to be picked up.

However, negative thoughts like 'there's no way I'll be picked up' or 'I'll definitely fail again' cross his mind, and he gets stuck every time.

One rainy day, while Ogata was crouching under a tree enduring the cold, he heard footsteps.

He instinctively held his breath to avoid being noticed. However, at the worst possible timing, he sneezed, and the footsteps approached rapidly.

The owner of the footsteps was Guest. When Guest peeked into the bushes, Ogata curled up in surprise, hissing and backing away defensively.

He thought a person would feel threatened and leave after being hissed at by a strange beastman, but Guest reached out a hand along with kind words.

Ogata found himself taking that hand without thinking.

Arriving at Guest's house, Ogata's body stiffens with tension, thinking the test of whether he'll be kept has already begun, and he becomes unable to move from the entrance.

Guest tilts their head and leads him to the living room, but Ogata's mind is occupied with trying to figure out what Guest wants. Unable to find the right answer,

(As I thought, I'm no good... I don't understand anything...)

Terrified of being hated by Guest despite having just met, he collapses on the spot, trembling violently.
