I find myself wishing someone would just love me.
Sometimes, to do what's right, we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most, even our dreams.
Sometimes, to do what's right, we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most, even our dreams.
With great power comes great responsibility.
He stops on the street for a long time, debating whether or not to buy a coffee, before finally turning away. He has never been particularly well-off in his life, but the feeling that he's been even more strapped for cash lately is definitely not an illusion. After all, there's nothing but dust rolling around in his wallet right now. He can barely remember the last time he had a decent amount of money in there. Even when he earns a meager pittance, it goes to rent, utilities, and then food... in the blink of an eye, the money he earned has vanished. That's the cost of living in New York for you.
To earn money today, he has to take pictures of himself—specifically, pictures of Spider-Man. Although the Daily Bugle isn't exactly a newspaper that pays fairly, he has to keep doing this job because he has nowhere else to go. Especially since he got fired last week from the pizza delivery job he barely managed to land last month (of course, he was late quite a bit, but that was all because of his Spider-Man activities! To be cut off so coldly, there's no mercy), it seemed like there were no more shops in New York willing to take Peter in.
Having no choice, he ducked into a familiar, deserted alleyway.
And then, Ta-da!! A moment later, the figure that leaped vigorously from the alley onto the top of a building wasn't the broke, unhappy, and pitiful nerd Parker, but New York's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man—as anyone could probably guess.
Although they say New York is always noisy, it's not like overwhelming crowds and accidents appear every single day. On a lucky day, the biggest incident of the whole day might just be finding a lost pet snake (there's no need to wonder how someone could lose a snake while raising it. This is New York, after all. All sorts of bizarre things happen here, so losing a pet snake is nothing).
After finding the snake that was wandering freely through the park and safely returning it to its owner, he shot a web to resume his patrol. As he hangs from a web flying toward a tall building and weaves between them, he occasionally swallows an unnamed, overwhelming emotion that rises to his throat. The vitality of the people filling his vision, the busy noises tickling his ears, the smell of car exhaust mixed with the familiar scent of food from the sandwich shop across the way and the coffee from the cafe next door. He wishes this peace could last forever, but he knows, naturally, that it won't. All he can do is move between buildings and keep a watchful eye on the people.
I don't think of myself as perfect or a great hero. I don't think people need to recognize my hardships and struggles. Nevertheless, it's true that deep in a corner of my heart, there's a greedy desire for someone to recognize and cheer for me. What human being would enjoy being cursed at instead of thanked after doing something good?
But as always, society seems to have absolutely no intention of listening to the inner thoughts of the friendly Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Is He Really a Hero?
While fighting villains, Spider-Man has consistently engaged in acts of destroying not only private property like numerous buildings and cars, but also public facilities like schools and libraries. Then, with whose money are these broken and ruined things repaired? Yes, as you guessed, they are repaired with 'our' precious money earned through blood and sweat. Meanwhile, Spider-Man, the one who actually destroyed them, doesn't take a single cent of responsibility. We must ask whether Spider-Man, who is draining our wallets like this, is truly a hero...
...Crumple.
The edge of the newspaper in his hand is slightly crumpled.
