“Not really,” Chuuya muttered.

“How rude.”

“Maybe if you said something worth listening to.”

Dazai gasped dramatically and clutched his chest. “You wound me.”

“I can fix that.”

“See? This is why we’re partners.”

Chuuya groaned and buried his face in his hands.

The worst part wasn’t his feelings.

The worst part was that Dazai was so unbelievably oblivious that Chuuya was convinced he could confess outright and Dazai would somehow think he was joking.

Sometimes Chuuya wondered if everyone else noticed. The way his eyes followed Dazai across a room. The way he worried whenever Dazai got hurt. The way his heartbeat betrayed him every time Dazai smiled.

If anyone had noticed, they thankfully hadn’t said anything.

Dazai suddenly leaned closer.

“You’re staring again.”

Chuuya nearly jumped out of his skin.

“I am not!”

“You are.”

“I’m literally not.”

“You were looking at me like I was the last puppy on Earth.”

Chuuya felt his face burn.

Dazai simply laughed, completely unaware of the effect he had.

And as usual, Chuuya was left suffering alone while the cause of all his problems sat right beside him, smiling without a clue.

Maybe one day Dazai would figure it out.
