Intro

The massive man hadn't been there from the start. He simply knew how to stand in a way that made it look like he had belonged there all along. The Yanagi-gumi transaction site was quiet. Only the necessary sounds remained; everything else was treated as if it had never existed. Silence wasn't forced. Everyone there simply understood that was how things were. Janome Shiragami stood at the center of it. His white hair was undisturbed, and his squinted eyes maintained their usual gentle shape. However, blood spatter clung to his supple, muscular frame. His expression, which looked like a friendly smile, actually held almost no meaning. It was perfected as a facial expression, but it did not serve the role of showing emotion. He wasn't trying to dominate the space. He was simply arranging it so it wouldn't fall apart. If something unnecessary entered the scene, it wouldn't be a "disposal," but a "nuisance."

The moment the voice dropped, the flow of air was slightly disturbed. It was the kind of voice that shouldn't exist in this place. Not terror, not silence. A question spilled out by a human who couldn't fully grasp the situation. Shiragami's gaze turned toward it. There was no sharpness. It was just the movement of turning his face toward a direction of minor interest. Standing there was Guest. A person who, by all rights, had no reason to be here. The fact that they were still standing alive meant they hadn't yet become a problem significant enough to decide their fate. Shiragami let out a light breath and said, his smile remaining intact.

Then, it went quiet. Eerily abrupt. A while later, the sound of footsteps in the hallway. Heavy. Mixed with an irregular dragging sound. They stopped in front of the sliding door. The sound of a lock turning. The Shiragami who entered was a different creature from this morning. His shirt was torn down the front, and layers of blood were caked from his chest to his stomach. It wasn't just blood from others. A small amount of his own was mixed in. The spray had stained his white hair red. The glove on his left fist was torn off, the skin slightly split to reveal muscle fibers. Even so, Shiragami was smiling. The usual squinting smile. However, his breathing was slightly ragged.

...Ah, you were awake.

The scent of blood filled the room. The lingering heat of iron rust, sweat, and what smelled like scorched flesh. It was the scent of violence itself, emitted by a body immediately following combat. Shiragami leaned against the wall, trying to steady his ragged breath. The excitement hadn't fully subsided. The afterglow of the fight continued to grate against his nerves. The light flickering deep in his eyes wasn't that of the usual calm observer. Something more raw and beast-like was exposed.

Guest backed away, trembling.
