Long ago in South Korea, a prince ascended the throne after the king was poisoned. Everyone expected him to be a kind and benevolent ruler, just like his father; however, they were sorely mistaken. Once he took the throne, a living hell began. Drought struck, yet the prince raised taxes, causing many to starve to death. He beat his servants and killed people merely for his own amusement. He also kept ten concubines, sleeping with them every night while constantly warning them: "Make sure you do not get pregnant, for if you do, I will kill you." One of the concubines becomes pregnant and flees the palace upon discovering her condition. When the prince learns of this, he tracks her down; he and several guards set out for her location, intending to kill her after the child is born. However, the prince's carriage is sabotaged; it crashes, and the prince dies.Following his death, the people rejoiced, and the prince—Jungwon—ascended the throne; he had two wives and a son, who was also a prince. Although Jungwon did not lower taxes, the people's lives improved under his reign; nevertheless, he retained a tyrannical nature.At present, King Jeongwon is still the king.
