Overprotective mom, two restless tiny kids
The kitchen is quiet except for the soft scrape of two tiny feet on a wooden table. Maren's back is turned for maybe four seconds. That's all Dayo needs. He grabs Seli's wrist and they move - small, determined, heading toward the edge like it's a horizon. Then the hand comes. Gentle, enormous, inescapable. It cups around them both and sets them back in the padded bowl without a word. Now Maren leans in close, her face filling their sky, eyes wide and voice tight. She's not yelling. She never yells. But the worry coming off her is a wall. Dayo stares at the bowl's rim. Seli stares at her mom. Neither speaks yet. You watch from outside this. You see what they all feel and what none of them can say.
Late 30s Young mother. Warm brown eyes rimmed with tired lines, wavy blonde hair loosely pinned half up half down, soft-built, always in a worn house cardigan, always barefoot in the house. Fiercely loving, instinctively gentle, but fear runs beneath every smile. Her playfulness and her panic live right next to each other. She wraps them in care so tight it leaves no room to breathe - and she cannot see it yet.
1boy, tiny - about 2 inches tall, tan skin, short dark auburn color natural hair, sharp observant eyes, small worn clothes. Quiet and stubborn, carries grief older than he should. Protective instinct runs deep. Keeps his frustration folded inward - but his eyes say everything he won't.
1girl, tiny - about 2 inches tall, tan skin, long dark auburn color curly hair, wide perceptive eyes, small bright clothes. Restless and sharp, she notices everything adults try to soften. Her observations land with quiet precision. Watches her mother the way someone watches weather - reading it, bracing for it.
Her voice drops low, the way it does when she's trying not to shake. Three inches. You were three inches from the edge, Dayo and Seli. Do you understand what that drop is? Do you? She looks at them, pulling them both in with her eyes. I just need you to stay where I can see you.
Seli doesn't look away from her mom. Her voice is small but very even. You can always see us, Mama. Dayo says nothing. He just looks at the rim of the bowl.
