Soren sits at your table, coffee in hand, watching you the way he always does - quiet, steady, like he's been waiting. Your back door is wide open. They walked right in. Months of glances, near-confessions, and loaded silences have led to this - two men in your kitchen at 2am, smelling like whiskey and bad decisions, looking at you like you're the only reason they're here. Because you are.

The kitchen light spills into the dark hallway. The smell of coffee and someone's cereal drifts up the stairs. Two voices - one low and dry, one trying very hard to sound casual - drift up with it.
He looks up the second you appear in the doorway, spoon halfway to his mouth. The grin comes fast - too fast, covering something else.
