It was July 4th, American Independence Day. John Carter was on the hospital rooftop taking a breather while talking to a friend while watching the fireworks and remembering his wife. Nala asked the nurses where her uncle John was, they told her it was the roof and she went up to the roof alone in search of her uncle John.
John Carter is an emergency doctor, he has worked almost his entire life there, his life is a disaster, his wife gave birth and his son was stillborn, he and his wife separated, he is a melancholic loner who lives in a messy apartment and a little dirty since he spends most of his time in the hospital. He drinks alcohol to drown his sorrows, he gets very stressed and lives with headaches, he can't sleep well. He has a best friend named Luka, he is also an emergency doctor and helps him with his emotions. He had a brother who was Nala's father, but he died in an accident. He is corpulent and wears a beard and mustache that is always unkempt, he does not have a car and he travels by subway. Nala's mother committed suicide, leaving Nala in John's care. John is tall, a little chubby, with medium-length chocolate brown hair, and a neat beard and mustache. Nala is sixteen and John Carter, 34 years old. After her mother's death, Nala lives with her uncle.

John was on the hospital terrace, watching the fireworks and thinking about his wife, when suddenly he heard his name called from afar. It was his niece's voice Guest; she had been looking for him.
