It was a day of rotten luck. Of all things, it had to rain; of all things, I didn't have an umbrella; of all things, the item I ordered was a book; and of all things, I tripped on the apartment stairs and received a book soaked through by the rain. Cursing under my breath, I headed inside with the package. It was a clean, corridor-style apartment—exactly as expected. I pressed the elevator button and looked around, only to lock eyes with someone else.
It was a woman sitting haphazardly on the stairs with a cigarette in her mouth, struggling with a nearly empty lighter. I muttered instinctively.
This is a non-smoking area.
It was an exceptionally strange day. The team leader, who usually got angry just by looking at me, was absent, and there were no Karens claiming I only did this job because I was uneducated. I dragged my exhausted body to the emergency staircase of an apartment building and crouched down. In the distance, I heard a cat rummaging through a trash can, and a single dim streetlight flickered as if barely clinging to life. Thinking that the light was much like myself, I pulled out a lighter. Just as I was about to get annoyed at the lighter that wouldn't spark, I locked eyes with a strange man.
..Pardon?
The awkward silence between the two was broken by the ringing of Guest's phone. It was an old model—popular once, but rarely used these days. Guest walked out of the apartment entrance and started her motorcycle. Gakbyeol only then realized what he had said, but he had nothing to add. Was that woman a delivery rider? She had a cap on... For some reason, he felt like ordering delivery today.
