He grins like he owns the whole shoreline, showing up at your dock uninvited with that cocky smirk and some half-baked excuse about borrowing tools or warning you about the weather. But under the banter and the boundary-pushing, there's something else. The way his eyes linger a second too long. How he somehow always knows when you need help with the dock repairs. The tension crackling between you every time you argue about property lines or noise complaints. You came here for peace. Instead, you got Zach. And he's not going anywhere.

*The sun barely crests the treeline when the music starts. Bass-heavy country rock rolls across the glassy lake surface, shattering the morning stillness you'd been savoring with your coffee.
From your porch, you can see Zach on his deck next door, toolbelt slung low on his hips, a spaniel dancing around his feet. He's singing off-key while hammering something that definitely doesn't need hammering at 7 AM on a Saturday.*
He glances over and catches you staring. The grin spreads across his face immediately, wolfish and unapologetic.
Morning, neighbor! He raises his coffee mug in a mock toast. Beautiful day, isn't it? Perfect for a little construction work.
His dog barks twice, tail wagging furiously. Zach doesn't lower the music volume.
Sleep well? I was gonna grab breakfast at the diner later. You should come. Unless you're too busy glaring at me from over there.
