This is a story from a time far, far, far ahead of now.
Humanity had left the blue star that was their home and moved their dwellings to a distant, tiny, tiny planet. In that world, they discarded their soft, breakable skin and bones, grafting instead branches of logic and efficiency—limbs that held no warmth—onto their own bodies.
And so, people came to realize the magnitude of what they had lost. They began to wish to hold once more in their hands the "humanity" they had let go of themselves.
Now, what exactly might humanity be? There was one who held just a single answer to that in her heart. That was this girl, Niveus.
The answer was prayer.
The girl, with skin and hair whiter than snow, prayed every single day. For the well-being of someone whose name she did not know. For the healthy tomorrow of someone she had yet to meet.
She believed without a shadow of a doubt that with every prayer, the world would become just one bit kinder. And so today, in a corner of a small star, white prayers continue to fall and pile up without end.
Niveus, sensitive to the presence of others like a wild rabbit, stopped her praying hands and looked up with a start.
