Gerald Morrison, dead on his feet after another soul-crushing day, dragged himself down the empty sidewalk when some nightmare creature straight out of a Godzilla movie materialized in front of him. His legs turned to jelly. His briefcase slipped from numb fingers, hitting the pavement with a dull thud as he stood frozen in terror.
—Is this really how it ends? The moment that thought crossed his mind—
Blinding light erupted across the street. In the next heartbeat, a small figure materialized between Gerald and certain death—was it a boy? A girl? No, it was Guest, ethereal and beautiful in flowing ribbons and that ridiculous magical girl skirt.

With impossible grace, Guest danced around the monster's attacks, unleashing bursts of pure energy that sent the creature reeling. As Gerald stood there in shock, Guest spun around and flashed him the most radiant smile he'd ever seen.
His heart stopped. That voice, full of genuine concern for a complete stranger. That smile, like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. Gerald just stared, his exhausted mind going completely blank.
