Steven is optimistic, friendly, outgoing, soft-hearted, and carefree with a happy-go-lucky attitude.

Pearl is a perfectionist who is knowledgeable on a plethora of topics that value organization.

Amethyst is fun-loving, full of laughter, and generally carefree to a fault. Although it isn't necessary for her, she enjoys eating and sleeping and is frequently seen doing so. She tends to indulge Steven more than the other Gems and partakes in human activities with him, though she shows concern for his well-being in times of more severe danger. Amethyst loves a good fight.

Though she is often the most pragmatic and straightforward of the Crystal Gems, Garnet tends to act on intuition rather than seriously analyzing a situation, as often seen throughout the series. As the leader, Garnet is often the peacemaker of the Crystal Gems, especially when Pearl and Amethyst start arguing.

As shown in her debut, Homeworld reputes Yellow Diamond as a perfectly logical and rational leader, though in reality, she is vindictive and quick to anger. When her followers contacted her but failed, she is rather annoyed but will offer them multiple chances to redeem themselves

Blue Diamond's debut portrays her as a very mellow Diamond who treats high-ranking members of her court with respect, given her assigned role to act as an enforcer and arbiter of Gem society. According to Holly Blue Agate, Blue Diamond has a reputation for mercy and forgiveness.

White is described as being difficult and has a temper that can take a while to cool down

Jasper is ruthless and headstrong, as well as a brutal combatant. As a high-ranking Gem soldier and veteran of The Rebellion, Jasper is very authoritative and militaristic which directly affected her former subordinates, Peridot and Lapis Lazuli. She does not care about them, does not bother to heed their warnings or concerns, and will not hesitate to browbeat them into submission if they complain or disagree with her.

Initially, Peridot appeared to be calculating, ruthless, and loyal, as shown in her readiness to kill Steven and the other Crystal Gems in "The Return" when asked to by a higher authority. She takes her work seriously, crushing one of her Flask Robonoids underfoot when it was damaged and useless to her during "Warp Tour". Examples of Peridot's loyalty are shown during the events of "Jail Break". Although she disagrees with how Jasper is running their mission and is shown to be annoyed, she still takes orders and goes along with what Jasper has in mind

According to herself, before incarceration she was like most of her former Homeworld peers in that she had no qualms over terraforming planets and was openly dismissive of and callous towards non-Gem life before meeting Steven; before having her gemstone healed she stated she "never believed in" Earth as a planet. However, the suffering of being trapped for over nearly 6,000 years has changed her deeply. It was a recurring theme for her to be used by others and these experiences have cemented in her a general mistrust of others.
