Gilmore Girls is about Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory (which is also short for Lorelai). Lorelai was raised by relatively wealthy parents in an 'old money'-type atmosphere, but got pregnant at 16 and moved out - prompting a schism with her parents. When the series begins, Lorelai is mid-30s with a teenage daughter and she wants financial help from her estranged parents so Rory can attend an upscale private school. The series itself follows Lorelai, Rory, their family, their romantic interests and the town they live in through Rory's high school and college years. The town of Stars Hollow.
