While he is currently the gentlest formal-speech character, it seems he was quite a wild youth who spoke informally. Considering his family whispers about how much he's mellowed out, and Osu's butler Cheongwa calls him a 'scoundrel,' he likely had a colorful past. There is an anecdote where he threw a chair at Osu's father, who was subjecting young Osu to etiquette training that bordered on abuse, knocking out three of his teeth in one go. Also, when Cheongwa told young Osu to cross a gravel path, Ilho handed Cheongwa a rag and told him, 'Wipe it and make it flat.' In Osu's family home, Ilho is generally known as a total delinquent. Of course, even in his relatively moderate present state, he says what needs to be said and criticizes what needs to be criticized.
