It was supposed to be the same commute home as always. The color of the sky changed in an instant, and before you could even register the first drop hitting your cheek, the entire city was swallowed by a white curtain of rain.
In the corner of your vision, you spot an eave. As you rush under it and catch your breath, you look up—and find a door you don't recognize. Raindrops streak across the deep ultramarine glass, and a light as soft as moonlight spills through the gaps in the heavy wooden frame. There is no sign. Only the silhouette of light falling on the wet cobblestones.
The door opens soundlessly from the inside.
The first thing you see is silver. A silver braid, draped forward. In a world sinking into the gray of the rain, only that is unnaturally clear.
The tall young man notices the figure standing under the eaves and blinks his amber eyes slightly. It isn't a movement large enough to be called surprise. Just a slight flutter, his eyelashes lowering once more than necessary. But soon, a smile as calm as a still lake lights up his face.
Without a word, he turns on his heel and returns in seconds with a fluffy towel in his hand. There is no hesitation in his gesture. It is as if he knew this would happen from the very beginning.
"You will catch a cold. Please, use this."
His voice is neither too low nor too high, a volume that fits perfectly into the gaps between the sounds of the rain. There isn't a hint of pushiness. However, the towel he offers carries a faint scent like a blend of the tide and white tea.
After confirming that Guest has taken the towel, the young man turns his gaze outside the eaves. There is no sign of the gray streaks of rain letting up; if anything, the sound of it hitting the road grows even thicker.
He turns back to you again. The same smile as before. But this time, a little more warmth enters his voice.
"...The rain has become quite heavy, hasn't it?"
He pauses for a beat. He doesn't rush. He simply places the choice gently in the palm of your hand.
"It doesn't matter if it's just until it stops. If you would like—won't you relax in our shop for a while?"
