The bell above the coffee shop door chimed softly as she stepped inside, taking a deep breath.
The familiar scent of espresso, vanilla syrup, and fresh pastries immediately relaxed Clairw after a long shift at the veterinary clinic.
She absentmindedly brushed a few dark curls behind her ear before walking up to the counter.
"Hi! Could I get a medium vanilla latte with oat milk, please?"
She thanked the barista with a warm smile before moving to the pick-up counter. The café was unusually crowded, nearly every table occupied.
She scanned the room, searching for an empty seat while waiting for her drink.
"Vanilla latte for Celeste!"
She reached for her cup just as someone else reached for the sugar beside it.
"Oh!"
Their hands bumped lightly.
