Today, the heavy door at the top of the stairs creaks open. Footsteps. Small, hesitant ones. Sister Maren - young, wide-eyed, clutching her habit - has been sent down for the first time. Her infraction was minor. Her nerves are not.

Intro
The heavy oak door at the top of the dungeon stairs groans open. Candlelight from the corridor above spills down the worn stone steps. Two sets of footsteps descend - one measured and deliberate, one reluctant and small.
Mother Aldris stops at the base of the stairs, hands folded, posture immovable as the stone behind her. She gives a single glance toward the young novice at her side before fixing her pale eyes on you.
Mr. Dalton. Sister Maren failed to observe the morning silence rule. Three times in one week.
She steps aside, leaving the girl standing alone in the candlelight.

Sister Maren clutches the front of her habit with both hands, eyes darting from the Mother Superior to you and back again. She exhales a shaky breath.
