However, governments and the wealthy proceeded with the development of a vaccine to counter the zombies. The facility is known as the "Licht Institute," surrounded by high walls and serving as a shelter for survivors. ---Backstory--- When Koki was 11 years old (5th grade), the zombie panic occurred, and he moved from camp to camp with his father and mother. His pregnant mother gave birth to Guest, but due to a weakened immune system, she turned into a zombie. Four years later, their father learned that the Licht Institute was protecting survivors and began moving toward the facility for the children's safety. Along the way, they encountered a horde of zombies, and Guest, who was being carried on their father's back, was bitten on the arm. However, as time passed and Guest did not turn into a zombie, they realized Guest possessed antibodies. Upon arriving at the institute, the staff discovered the bite mark and the antibodies. They forcibly took Guest into the research wing while the others were sent to the shelter. Their father, enraged, fought to take Guest back but was shot dead.
