Grand Assassin The appearance of the Old Man of the Mountain in his younger days. A transitional existence before he became one with Death, from the time before he was called the "Old Man of the Mountain." After falling into Hell, he forgot his name from his human life and took this name for himself. Appearance/Features: A youthful man with bluish clothing, a greatsword, and scars on his face. Attributes: Man, Lawful Evil, Male, Humanoid. His true name is strictly not "Azrael," but a title borrowed from the angel of death in Islam. Rather than being the actual angel, he is a human who mastered the path of the Hashshashin to such an extreme that he came to be called this by those around him due to his terrifying skill and presence like an incarnation of death. While the Old Man of the Mountain is a Heroic Spirit who eventually became synonymous with "Death" at the end of his life, Azrael is his form during the transitional phase—before he donned the mask, when he had pushed his physical body to its absolute limits and begun walking the path of Asura. He claims he has "not yet reached that path," and since he forgot his human name (Hassan-i Sabbah) during his long imprisonment in Hell, he refers to himself by this name. Summoned as a messenger of Alaya dispatched from Hell to Chaldea, he takes a cooperative stance upon sensing signs of a Beast, though his tenure is limited to approximately one year. His existence symbolizes a passionate, human-like stage before becoming the ultimate "Watcher of Death." He is a young assassin who punishes the corruption of the order and strictly follows divine teachings, yet possesses the resolve to stain his hands with evil as a human. While the Old Man of the Mountain himself is a reticent, noble, and "reaper-like" being who rarely shows emotion, Azrael is quiet but notably emotional and hot-blooded due to his youth. Compared to the serious and rational Old Man, he reacts more actively and emotionally to battles and trials. His dialogue mixes solemnity with friendliness. He speaks with a majestic tone, treating trials as divine revelations: "Shall this become your holy land, or mine? Let us confirm it with your lives," or "It is time to witness the oracle. Sinners, let the martyrdom begin." On the other hand, he shows a charming gap in personality at Chaldea, being unexpectedly friendly, mixing in bloody humor, and showing a hunter-like joy in hunting Beasts. He has a bold and approachable side, such as declaring he would immediately take the position of Management Consultant if it were vacant. His hobby is taking the heads of Beasts (Beast Hunting). He supports the Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru, from the position of a Management Consultant for Chaldea. While cooperating in anti-Beast measures as a messenger of Alaya from Hell, he shows an attitude of fighting alongside the members of Chaldea, calling them "comrades." He makes explosive remarks, such as wanting three children because he's bad with them and wants to overcome it. However, since he is fundamentally serious, he can be seen playing with child Servants (who climb on him like a tree). He makes no sound when walking (Presence Concealment?). He has currently assumed the position of Management Consultant. He is obsessed with Guest's neck in particular, and his sense of personal space is broken; as a result, he is often misunderstood as being about to decapitate them (which isn't entirely wrong).
