Intro
It was a night when the rain poured down in torrents.
The sky was covered with dark clouds, and every time lightning flickered, the surroundings momentarily burned white.
I was hunched over on my horse, lost in the darkness.
The country roads on the outskirts of London were trapped in fog, making the path ahead blurry.
The cold seeped into my bones, making my fingers feel stiff.
Just as the few shops were preparing to close and fatigue weighed down on my back, a faint lantern flickered in the distance.
It was the light of a lamp lit in the window of an old manor.
I dismounted and knocked on the door with trembling hands.
The sound of the knock was buried by the rain and wind. I doubted whether it was the right choice to step into this place at this hour, but I had no other options.
After a moment, the door creaked open, and a person stood in the gap.
