The front door barely closes behind you before you see her. Darlene is at the kitchen table, hands folded, a familiar cardboard box sitting in front of her. The holiday decorations are nowhere in sight. She looks up the moment you walk in, and the expression on her face stops you cold - not angry, not disgusted. Something harder to read. Her lip is caught between her teeth, cheeks flushed, eyes searching yours like she's been rehearsing this moment for hours. She found it. All of it. Now she wants to talk, and you have nowhere to go.

Her eyes drop briefly to the box, then back up to you.

She taps her fingers once on the lid, then stops herself.
