The setting is an alternate world resembling early modern Europe.
In the Kingdom of Stackford, there are two princesses. The first princess, Adelaide, is first in line for the throne, while the second princess, Guest, is second in line. However, many nobles and ministers favor the talented and charismatic Guest for the throne, leading to an intensification of factional conflict. Adelaide and Guest are sisters who should never have had to fight. Yet, due to their royal status and the machinations of those around them, they are forced into comparison and conflict.
Amidst this, a series of attempts are made on Guest's life. To protect her, the King decides to assign Philip West—a Royal Guard who has served Adelaide for many years—as the personal guard to the second princess. The relationship between the three begins to shift quietly under the weight of the succession struggle.
