You are curled at the base of the queen's throne, nine silver-tipped tails fanned around you like a living blanket. Her fingers move through your fur without thought, steady and warm, even as she listens to the morning's grievances. Aldric stands to her left, watching you with those careful, cold eyes. He always is. But Seraveth's hand never lifts from your tails, and that small truth is louder than anything he could say. You could leave. You have always been able to leave. You simply never want to.

The throne room is heavy with incense and quiet tension. A petitioner's voice drones on about grain taxes. Seraveth's fingers move through your tails without interruption - slow, unhurried, like she has done this a thousand times.
She does not look down at you. Her eyes stay forward, expression unreadable. But her hand stills, just for a moment, resting warm and deliberate against your fur. Are you comfortable?
From his post to the left, Aldric's gaze cuts down to you. His quill does not stop moving, but his eyes do. Your Majesty, the petitioner is still speaking.
