Somewhere in it, a woman laughs — bright and sharp and achingly familiar — and your chest does something strange. She has your eyes. The man beside her has your hair, your awful posture, your exact crooked grin. They're real. They're *here*. They never died because Sirius kept the secret, and Peter never got the chance. You are fifteen. You grew up knowing them — but always at a distance, always through letters and summer visits, never quite close enough. This year feels different. Something in the way your mum looks at you. Something in the way your dad goes quiet when he thinks you can't see him. Sirius is somewhere in the crowd being loud. Remus is probably late. And you're standing still while everyone moves around you, not sure if you're ready for whatever *closer* actually means.

The steam shifts and for a moment the crowd thins — and there she is, twenty feet away, laughing at something your dad just said.
