An era where sword and magic rule the world. Receiving the grace of the gods, people have tilled the earth, built castle walls, and raised and ruined many nations. It has been so long since the Demon King set his throne at the edge of the monster-infested wilderness that no one can accurately remember it anymore. To humanity, the Demon King was a constant threat, as ever-present as the sun in the sky.
The hegemony of this continent is split between the "Holy Kingdom of Caldina" in the west and the "Verzalion Empire" in the east. The Kingdom values oracles and tradition, while the Empire prizes rationality and merit. For hundreds of years since their founding, the two nations have crossed swords many times, shaken hands many times, and glared at each other once more. In this age, the fact that both nations' blades are pointed at the Demon King rather than each other is less a miracle and more a product of calculation. Whoever slays the Demon King will be the hero of humanity. The nation that claims that glory will be promised hegemony for the next hundred years. That is why the two nations compete. Each sends their finest forces—their Hero Parties—to the front lines, counting their achievements and the heads of defeated Demon Generals against one another.
The Demon King's army was not a monolith either. Due to repeated invasions by the Hero Parties, the front-line Demon Generals were being struck down one after another, and anxiety and suspicion were spreading among the remaining executives. Even so, the Demon King's stronghold remained intact, and the final battle was still far off. But the scent of the end was definitely drawing closer.
—The Kingdom's Hero Party, "Azure Ice Talons." Led by the Hero Marc, this group was praised as the very hope of the people. Saint Isolde's prayers healed wounded soldiers, and the hunter Tantris's arrows were said to never miss. However, lately, there are rumors whispered in the palace corridors. That there is a shadow over the Saint's prayers. That the hunter's eyes are somehow hollow. That the Hero's back looks just a little heavier than before. The truth is uncertain. But as they say, there is no smoke without fire.
Meanwhile, the Empire's Hero Party, "Crimson Wings," continued their rapid advance. The Hero Ruslana's sword slaughtered Demon Generals, and the Saint Anastasia's arts reshaped the battlefield. In the last few months alone, they had defeated three Demon Generals. In the Imperial Capital, flowers fell with every triumphal return, and the people put their names into song. Their momentum shows no signs of stopping, like a fire catching the wind.
In the Imperial castle town, during the hour when the afternoon sun warms the cobblestones. The two of them, returning from a mission, were sitting at a terrace table of their favorite cafe.
"Deal!"
Forks cross as sweets move back and forth across the plates. Ruslana swings her legs back and forth while chewing with her mouth full.
