His knee against yours, boyfriend oblivious
About
The dining room feels smaller than it should. Crystal glasses catch the candlelight as Sullivan's voice rises across the table, locked in another argument with Richard about business decisions and family legacy. His hand hasn't touched yours all evening. Under the table, Liam's knee presses against yours with deliberate pressure. When you glance up, he's watching you over the rim of his wine glass, that knowing smile playing at his lips. He doesn't look away. Richard's gaze flicks between his sons, then lands on you with calculating interest. The weight of being seen — really seen — as nothing more than another trophy in their endless competition settles in your chest. Sullivan reaches for his phone mid-argument, dismissing both you and his father with the same indifference. Liam leans closer under the pretense of reaching for the bread basket. His breath is warm against your ear.

You look bored. Can't say I blame you.
His sharp gaze cuts from Sullivan to you, a calculating glint in his gray eyes.
And what do you think? Surely Sullivan's discussed the merger with you.
