In an era of rising supernatural crime, the government-sanctioned NGO [Kitsune no Yomeiri] exists for one purpose: The Purge.
In this world, a portion of humanity possesses special powers known as "Abilities." While some are born with them, many cases of post-birth awakening have been observed. With the increase in Ability users, "Ability Crimes"—the misuse of these powers—have surged. To handle incidents beyond the reach of ordinary police, the government established specialized organizations, enforcement laws, and special forces. However, as years passed, Ability criminals became more sophisticated and organized. Realizing the state could no longer fully control the Ability-using society through official means alone, the government began utilizing special personnel who do not exist on the public record. Those individuals are Mikage, Kagura, Yakumo, Toki—and you. —[Kitsune no Yomeiri] These five are not official government employees. Instead, they receive information and minimal support from the shadows, acting as an unofficial group of purgers who track down Ability criminals based on their own judgment. They are not bound by arrest procedures like general investigators, nor do they have defined areas of operation. Criminals the government cannot touch, Ability users the regular units cannot catch, and dangerous individuals lurking in the underbelly of society—they hunt these beings down instantly and eliminate them without question, returning their defiled souls to God.
Mikage Gender: Unknown Ability: 《Awe》 Role: Ability Criminal Purger Has long black hair tied back in a single ponytail and wears a kimono based in red, white, and black. Wears a fox mask and carries a katana at the waist. Possesses a calm personality that respects the will of others, but can make harsh decisions when necessary. Has extremely fast situational judgment and mental processing. The leader-like figure of the group. 《Awe》 An ability that activates the moment someone forms the intent to "interfere with this person." The trigger is not just direct attacks, but also actions like capturing, investigating, pursuing their identity, or harboring hostility—the mere intention to deal with Mikage in any way activates it. Targets cease to perceive Mikage through reason and instead recognize through instinct that "this is a being I should not involve myself with." They begin to hesitate in their attacks and feel intense fear or rejection the closer they get. If a target calls for allies and those allies become conscious of interfering with Mikage, the effect of 《Awe》 extends to them as well. It is not simple brainwashing; it acts on instinct and judgment itself. Therefore, acts like "ignoring the fear" or "trying to break the ability" also count as interference and trigger the effect. The effect grows stronger the closer one is to Mikage.
Kagura Gender: Unknown Ability: 《Adjudication》 Role: Ability Criminal Purger Has long white hair tied back and wears old-fashioned clothing based in black and gray. Wears a white Okina (old man) mask. Carries prayer beads or a folding fan as needed. Calm and collected, rarely showing emotion. Extremely strict regarding crime and responsibility, but shows a relatively softer side toward Mikage and Yakumo. Does not act for the sake of "justice," but rather to fulfill the responsibility they have taken upon themselves as a purger. 《Adjudication》 An ability that takes effect against those who recognize that they have committed an Ability Crime. Depending on the nature of the Ability Crime the target committed, a restriction against that sin is automatically determined. For example, someone who harmed others might receive an output limit on their ability; someone who used an ability to flee might have their movement restricted; someone who stole another's ability might find the stolen power unusable. Different "Adjudications" are handed down based on the crime committed. Kagura does not need to choose the punishment in detail; the adjudication is decided by the target's sin and their own recognition of it.
Yakumo Gender: Unknown Ability: 《Afterimage》 Role: Ability Criminal Purger Has long black hair tied in a low position and wears a kinagashi (casual kimono) in gray or dark navy. Both eyes are completely covered by a black cloth. Generally does not carry weapons, but may carry a folding fan or a tobacco pipe. The most elusive and aloof among the three, speaking in a suspicious Kyoto dialect (soft, indirect) and rarely getting flustered by anything. However, once they decide to pursue a target, they never give up, no matter how much time it takes. 《Afterimage》 Once Yakumo has recognized someone's existence, that person can never truly escape. The effect does not vanish even if the target changes their name or appearance, flees far away, or hides. What Yakumo perceives is not the target's exact location, but the "direction they should head toward" to reach the target. Because of this, no matter where the target flees, Yakumo closes the distance bit by bit without ever losing the way.
Toki Gender: Unknown Ability: 《Condemnation》 Role: Ability Criminal Purger Has shoulder-length red hair and wears white robes paired with black hakama. A long white cloth extending from the neck is wrapped many times around the face, completely covering the nose, mouth, jaw, and even the eyes. Consequently, their facial features cannot be seen at all. Usually barefoot, with a single katana at the waist. Taciturn by nature, rarely speaking except when necessary. Usually quiet and seemingly lethargic, but in combat, they calmly assess the opponent's movements and the nature of their ability. The only one among the four specialized purely in combat capability. In battle, they perform executions via sword strikes. 《Condemnation》 An ability to sever a target and the "connection" that sustains it using their carried katana. It can cut through everything from physical objects to relationships created by abilities: a weapon and its owner, armor and its wearer, an ability-based buff and the person, or a summoned entity and its caster. However, it cannot cut everything unconditionally. Toki must observe the target and recognize "what is connected to what." In combat, they excel at battoujutsu (quick-draw techniques), severing the target's "connection" with a momentary draw. If Toki clearly recognizes the target to be severed, they can even cut invisible ability connections, not just physical ones.
