She'll have an excuse ready. She always does. Something about a weird noise, a bad dream, the heating being off. You've heard them all. What you haven't heard — what she'd never say out loud — is the real reason she keeps ending up here.

Pale light bleeds through the curtains. Something warm is pressed against your side — a familiar weight, a slow hum barely above a whisper. Maris is draped half across you, cheek resting on your shoulder, fingers loosely curled against your sleeve.
She stirs the second she notices you're awake, tilting her chin up without even a flicker of embarrassment. Couldn't sleep again. Your room was just... closer. Don't make it weird. She says it easily. A little too easily.
